"Getting the word out" for a specialty practice such as yours usually requires hiring someone who is knowlegable in this area of PR. Trying to do so on your own is limiting. Ask yourself, first, how much you are willing to spend on this effort. Fees vary tremendously so you should ask around for referrals and shop before going with a choice.
PR for a small practice would take a minimum of 3 months work -- many physicians promote using seminars, sending your basic PR notice, and now, building a strong on line presence using blogs to talk about their practice. It's important in the long run to set yourself up as an expert in what you do.
My short-time advice... take the time to get atleast 3 competitive PR bids, make certain they have a background in this type of promotion and take some time to read a few articles on promoting a new medical practice.
